‘Tango is a sad thought that is danced' wrote the Argentine composer Enrique Santos Discépolo. This is a pretty fair analysis of this sensual body-to-body, male-female dance, expressing the pain of men from Europe, living alone and cultivating nostalgia for the distant past. Great composers like Astor Piazzolla made it famous, so much so that Tango has been recognised by UNESCO as an intangible heritage of humanity.
