A historic tavern in the Centro district of Madrid, the Venencia is entirely dedicated to the glory of sherry, this wine mutated from aguardiente brandy from the city of Cadiz, in the extreme south of Spain.
Surrounded by old barrels and traditional woodwork, start your oenological experience with dry sherry, called Fino, before moving onto the heavier wines, such as the olorosos.
For sweeter wines, try Pedro Ximenez or Moscatel sherries. To accompany these nectars, the Venencia offers a concise but oh so effective menu of tempting tapas like jamón serrano, garlicky marinated olives, and blue cheese canapés.
